SANTA
CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2004--Sequence Design
today announced a collaborative effort with Agere Systems
to develop power libraries to benefit ASIC customers doing
power-sensitive integrated circuit (IC) design.
This work will allow users of Agere's
ADS (ASIC Design System) 130nm and 90nm ASIC libraries to
utilize the capabilities of Sequence's PowerTheater(TM), an
early-stage design tool for the analysis and optimization
of power.
"A number of our ASIC customers
are developing products with restricted power budgets,"
according to Don Friedberg, director of Design Methodologies
at Agere Systems. "Working with Sequence's PowerTheater,
our customers can enhance their ability to manage their system
and component power budgets early in the development phase."
In addition to aiding designers stretching
battery life, these new libraries for PowerTheater users also
expand the designer's ability to control thermal effects,
and make more educated choices for package options.
With its ability to provide accurate
RTL power estimation, precise gate-level power verification,
and flexible power optimization to help minimize power early
in the design cycle, PowerTheater reduces power as much as
40 percent or more in large designs, versus 5 percent to 10
percent for gate/synthesis-based tools. Typically, 80 percent
of the power in these large and complex designs determined
at the RTL stage or earlier, so any effective power analysis
and design decisions must be made early, before synthesis.

"Like Agere, we share a passion
for pleasing the customer," said Vic Kulkarni, Sequence
president and CEO. "The creation of these libraries demonstrates
both companies recognize the difficult realities of managing
power in large, complex designs, and are proactively working
to offer the designer practical solutions with real-world
benefits today."
